full restore on a compaq

ok i have had the same problem i have seen alot of people have latley with my icons not opening...well in sick of messing with it and willing to let everything go....but i have no clue how to do a full restore ..im under the impression i need a disk which i dont have i bought the computer from a rent to own place and it didnt come with one. i have since moved so i cant just drive it back over there and have them do it even if they would. please help me.

Go out and buy a retail vesion of XP and load it onto your system.. or take
a drive back to where you bought it..
