Default Windows XP logs off immediately after logon

I have seen the same problem that a couple of other
people have recently posted. I press the user account to
logon, it says 'logging on' then immediately logs off and
saves the settings.

I tries stopping the boot with PF8 and logging on in safe
mode but the same problem happened. In safe the
administator ID was visible but that too logged off
aautomatically.
System restore from pf8 also gave the same results.

any offers on how to fix ?

I had the same problem and found the answer here:

http://www.lavasofthelp.com/articles/v6/04/06/0901.html

It worked for me. Hope it does for you. It was caused by
removing adware/spyware.

Good luck
