I want to mix, merge and edit music, are there any free programs out there
that will be good enough for this?

Audacity studio, Krystal studio and pro tools (if you are not using xp) are
all good with massess of free tools etc. I use audacity to record and mix, it
takes a bit of getting used to and you'll need to download a wav to mp3
utility if you want to send stuff over the net but it's pretty good. I
combined the flexibility of Audacity with the vst pluginability of krystal.
Search on google for either, they are free and tres cool.
