Similar Problem

I have been able to hear sound since installing XP.
However, my sound will go out with no reason upon start
up. Previously, I had used System Restore and my sound
would work. However, that is no longer the situation.
I've gone through all the troubleshooting basics. That's
not the problem and the drivers check out ok.
