audio runs fine video slow (700 mhz Laptop WinXP)

I have this problem after reformatting my hard drive & installing winxp pro
that the videos I play (mpg avi) are running real slow in video but fine in
audio. I realise its an old PC but they were running fine with win ME on
them

What software do you recommend I download or hardware updates

XP takes up much more resources than ME, so it may just be that the laptop
cannot cope with the strains you are putting on it.
