I have an ongoing problem with getting my radeon 7000 to
run at 4x. It has persisted since windows 98 se but occasionally it was possible to get it to run, apparently by switching pci card locations. However the last time I reinstalled Se, it would not in that configuration or any other, so since I had recently aquired XP I installed that. In xp it has become totally impossible to to get it to run at 4x. Anytime it is to 4x in the bios and I set the ati control panel smart gart to 4x, some period of time after the xp splash screen displays during the boot process and longer than it should take to display the desktop it shows a garbled blue screen for an instant and reboots. The log file I tracked down says it is due to the driver getting stuck in an infinite loop. I have the latest drivers for both my via chipset and the radeon and have tried all other available drivers as well. It will run at 2x when the gart is set to 2x, the bios 4x is disabled, or both. Have tried all system ram configurations available with my existing modules. No conflicts in device manager. Intel pentuim 3 667 MHZ, Soyo sy7vca-e, 384 MB sdram, radeon 7000 32MB ddr. |
