firewire

i have upgraded my computer which now operates on xp home
edition,i removed a firewire from my old system running
windows me.when i insert it into my new computer the
system shuts down and spontaneously starts up again the
only option i have is to remove the firewire,the machine
then responds normally.has anyone experienced this
problem or does any one have any ideas?is there a
solution out there?
