Note that it is illegal to do this for copyrighted discs.... The DVD is not copyrighted.
There's no explanation how to convert DVD vob files to mpeg 2 files without a recompression. There's only how to convert to DivX, Xvid with a recompression. http://www.dvdrhelp.com/sefy/ You can choose from several programs for each
step. I would recommend SmartRipper, DVD2AVI, TMPGenc and Nero. I want to compress the VOB files to a WMV file by importing the video to
Windows Movie Maker 2 and adding the video to the Story board and saving in the WMV format. But Windows Movie Maker 2 can't import VOB files, only mpeg2 or other files. How to import the video to the Windows Movie Maker 2? Is it possible to extract the mpeg2 data from the VOB files without losing quality and resolution? Thanks for your replies.
How to compress to WMV codec 9 file directly? Compressing to mpeg2 at first would worsen the WMV file quality. Can the TMPGEnc compress to WMV codec 9 file directly? How to find that old version of VirtualDUB or free apps which can compress
to WMV codec 9 format? Compressing to mpeg2 at first would consume much HD space and time. Would WMV codec 9 be the best format for compressing DVD to a CD?

What is the easiest way to compress a not copyrighted DVD to a CD? Most definately NOT. WMV is good for streaming, but that's about it. If
you want to store it on CD, then I would recommend either DiVX or XViD. Of the two, I find XViD gives slightly better results. If you want it to be playable in a DVD player, then you should use MPEG1 or MPEG2 format instead. All guides for this are on www.dvdrhelp.com. There also used to be a link to the old version of VirtualDUB on there, but I don't know if it's still on there..
