I am also experiencing the same problem, I am operating Windows XP home, after updating to SP2 I have lost all audio, the drivers are installed but the sytem does not seem to recognise them, when I try to get int sound. I have had a technician look at it and he has told me that my entire motherboard now needs replacing, i find this hard to believe as by searching the net this problem has happened to a number of people...... so I would really appreciate if you find out how to fix the problem because I don't really want to replace my entire motherboard if it is not really necessary. (I have a MSI 845 Pro with onboard sound card, AC972.1) I have also been in contact with my original supplier and he was shocked to think that this would be the case but I have just spent a small fortune on one support technician, I cant afford to do it again. Any advice would be appreciated.

The simplest possible solution before purchasing a new mobo would be to
uninstall SP2 and see if that solves the problem. Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove programs>WindowsXP Service Pack2 You may just need updated drivers for your soundcard you can get them on the internet and they are free. Go to the manufacturers website and download them. If you uninstall SP2 and then reinstall it, make sure you disconnect all peripherals such as printers, scanners, and cameras. Only connect the monitor, mouse and keyboard. -- Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug. Thanks Jerry, but I have already tried both of those and neither has worked. I have since found out by looking at my NTBTLOG that no audio drivers are being loaded at start up. Also, when I look at the driver for the audio is states "Device has been enabled but has not been started" does this mean anything that may suggest there is something else I can try?
