I upgraded my 1.7ghz P4 to a 2.4ghz P4. My BIOS showed I
had a 1.7ghz. I did a flash BIOS upgrade from the Dell A06 to XP2. The BIOS still shows a 1.7ghz and there seems to be no way of changing it. Windows and other test software show a 2.4ghz. Can I change the BIOS setting or does it really matter/affect anything? |

Does your BIOS have an option to User Define the cpu? Try it if it's there.

Joe, This is a hardware issue unrelated to Windows XP. Please contact Dell (your hardware vendor) for support on this matter. -- Regards, Mike -- Mike Brannigan [Microsoft] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights Please note I cannot respond to e-mailed questions, please use these newsgroups "Joe Mama" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2c9301c3e15a$23b8dd90$a401280a@phx.gbl... > I upgraded my 1.7ghz P4 to a 2.4ghz P4. Consult Dell for how to set the bios to your CPU upgrade. Hardware specific not an XP issue. You boot from the CD and do a clean install. Sounds like someone played with their FSB and multiplier settings in the
bios (-: Seeing as you have a hardware problem, take the computer to someone who knows! -- Regards: Richard Urban aka Crusty (-: Old B@stard :-) "Joe Mama" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2c9301c3e15a$23b8dd90$a401280a@phx.gbl... > I upgraded my 1.7ghz P4 to a 2.4ghz P4.
