So if the computer has been running for any length of time you should shut down, restart and then "clean house". The reason for this is that application and driver installs very often put files into the temp folder pending a restart when they are automatically moved to their intended final locations. If the files are deleted before the computer is rebooted then it is possible that whatever was recently installed or updated may not work properly because not all of the proper files are present.
