Default files or folders to save

Monday I am installing a new hard drive with WindowsXP on
it. I am currently using win98SE. Are there preference
files or folders that i need to backup and save to an
external drive to migrate onto the new drive. Cookie
files, favorites, preferences, or anything like that? I've
already backed up and saved documents etc. that i wish to
keep, but i'm wondering about system files. I've been
searching the net for 2 hours looking for information and
have come up completely empty in my searching. I will
appreciate any help at all.

Thanks michael

You should not have to backup system files. You only need to backup what
you want to keep. For example, you might want to backup your favorites,
email, and address book.
