Trouble running a batch file in XP

In Win98 I have a .BAT file that I have a shortcut to. When I click on it,
it runs the batch file, which opens 2 programs

My current batch file reads thus:

start C:\WINDOWS\sonar.REC
start "E:\Cakewalk\SONAR 1\SONAR.EXE"

This doesn't work in XP. A while back I stumbled on the correct wording, but
lost the batch file through changing to a different disk image

What is the correct wording to run this batch file in XP?
