Meg cogitated deeply and scribbled thusly:

This is actually a newsgroup for Windows XP not Windows 98, but here
goes anyway..... Presumably when you switch on your PC you get a command
prompt like this? C:> Can you then put in your CD and type (without the
quotes) "cd D:/" If that works, you shouild then see D:> then type setup.

If none of that works, you need to get a Win 98 Boot floppy. You can
download one at http://www.bootdisk.com/

Yeah, I tried to find a more appropriate place to post my
question, but the MS site is so durn big!
I tried all the DOS prompts I remembered from the bad old
days (setup, run, list, tree...), but NOTHING works. So do
I have to download this boot floppy, install it, then
install from the cd?
Thanks very very much - I've been frustrated with this.

yes, just download the files, put them onto a floppy and boot up with that.
