Default Re: File sharing in XP Home

I believe booting to safe mode in Home Edition is necessary to reveal the
simple file sharing option. Designed this way to prevent the average home
user from unchecking it by mistake.

I am positive there is a VERY simple solution to this. Most likely one or
both of us are just missing that one detail from the other that will make it
all happen.

You are correct, adding a user from another system does not work in a
workgroup environment. That is why you must have matching accounts on each
machine for this to work seamlessly, or you will have to provide a valid
user/password for a user on the computer on which the share you are trying
to access resides.
