Default Re: MSKB says delete HKEY, but...

When I disconnect the printer I still get the "Cannot delete ..." error
(please see original post at bottom here) when I try to delete the LEPTENUM
key.
There are two subkeys to LPTENUM:
Epson StylusC60
MicrosoftRawPort
Each of these has a list of subkeys conisisting of mostly numbers. Should I
be deleting all subkeys first, then going for the LPTENUM key?

Thanks, Jack

Hi

Try disconnecting the printer then deleting the Registry key.

| I am having the problem with the New Hardware Wizard popping up every time
I
| turn on my Epson C60 printer (in WinXP). I am tired of using the
workaround
| (cancelling Wizard) each time. According to KB298370 I should be able to
fix
| it by deleting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\LPTENUM
from
| the Registry, and then restarting.
| But it will not allow me to delete the key:
|
| "Cannot delete LPTENUM: Error while deleting key."
| I am doing this with the printer turned off and all other apps closed.
| What to do? Thanks, Jack

Yeah, setup secures the key. But! you can change the ACL on the key so you
can delete it.

I'd only delete the Epson Stylus key

highlight the key, RT click, Permissions , Add
yourcomputername\administrators
Grant full control

Now you can delete the key
