Default Okidata Dilemma

The only thing that has changed in my printing setup has
been the transition from windows 98se to XP.

What changed in the printing systems from 98 to XP?

Running Okidata printers (ML320, and pacemark 3410)
With correct drivers (ML320, and IBM emulation Proprint3)
The print quality and character pitch are changed from the
printer default even when printing just text from
notepad. The effect is, old reports I used to print now
look terrible with the new spacing, and print slowly.

The settings on the printer utility do not match the
settings available on the printer.
The paper sizes are not customizable. Effect; I get a
half a page ejected after my 6" report page.

If I use old drivers ML292 on the ML 320 then the print
defaults do not change, but this seems like a step
backwards. And I cannot find any driver that will do that
much for the Pacemark.

I would argue that it is not the printer that is at fault,
but the way XP has decided to handle its print jobs,
because as I stated earlier, the only change I have made
is the

Carl, Carl, Carl--you call youself a "techguy" and can't
figure this one out for yourself? It's the responsibility
of the printer manufacturer to develop and supply drivers.
You say you're using the "correct" drivers, but have you
visited the websites of the manufacturers to see if there
are any XP-compatible drivers? Do you think it might be
time for a new printer?

~chucke~ been there done that. Sorry thought that would
have been covered in the 'correct drivers' statement. The
printer manufacturer states XP shipped with the correct
drivers. ha ha. As for a new printer, the Pacemark is
new! Buisness still needs impact printers now and then, I
just wish XP printed the same as 98. However, change is
inevitable, and good for us, and oh whatever.
