Faxing from XP Outlook

I have set up my email account by including fax transport
but did not set as default.
I can't send fax because i get msg that the address is
not recognized. I think i am addressing the receiptant
incorrectly. What exactly do i put in the "To:" line and
does the fax number have to be listed in my address book?
