Default HP Deskjet 3820 won't print with XP Home Edition

I recently installed XP home edition. I obtained all of
the updates for it. I tried to install my HP Deskjet
3820. XP doesn't recognize my printer. I have used a USB
cord and a serial cord. Neither one does the trick. The
printer is fine. It prints a test page in a "stand alone"
manner. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling
drivers and software several times. I even went to HP's
website and got the latest drivers. I'm stumped. Can
anyone help?

You may respond to me directly using email or in this
forum, whichever you prefer. Just put "printer help" in
the subject line if you use hotmail.

Thanks, in advace, for your help!

=) Phil

If you kept the printer connected during the upgrade to XP, you have
corrupted the drivers.

See:

for detailed uninstall and reinstall instructions.

Cori,

Thanks for the reply to my post. I did not have the
printer connected during the upgrade. Futhermore, when I
tried to uninstall it it's still in control panel. It
says "deleting" under the printer. I'm thinking I need to
call Microsoft.

Try stopping the print spooler first.

From the command prompt, type

net stop spooler

and hit enter.
