I have Windows XP Pro with service pack 1 applied. The windows fax software
was installed from the Windows CD using add/remove windows components, and is configured to send but not receive. I can successfully send a single page fax, but when I attempt to send a multi-page fax, only the first page is sent correctly. Subsequent pages appear to be sent properly (no errors are reported by the sending Windows fax software, or the receiving fax machine), but appear at the receiving fax machine as completely blank pages. The windows 'preview fax' viewer shows all pages correctly, and the file in the SentItems archive also shows all pages correctly when viewed. The fax machine activity log shows that it has received the correct number of pages without error. The only problem is that there are no black dots after page 1. Any ideas? |

You would have to start by listing the steps you are using to send this fax
and from what application. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Martin Abernethy" <martin@finalsort.co.uk> wrote in message news:uCQfkRsdDHA.2672@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... > I have Windows XP Pro with service pack 1 applied. I have tried the following from MS Word 2000, Notepad, and Internet
Explorer. Select Print from the file menu, and then the Fax printer. The 'send a fax' wizard starts, and I fill in the details and send. The fax monitor pops up and shows the fax being sent. The receiving fax machine (which is on another line in the same office) shows the fax being received. The fax monitor eventually states that the fax has been sent successfully; the fax machine says that the fax has been received successfully. If I do this with a single page document, and select no cover page in the wizard, the document is faxed perfectly. If I do the same thing with exactly the same document, but select a cover page from the wizard, the cover page is faxed perfectly, but the document appears as a blank page. The document appears to be sent properly (it takes 30 or 40 seconds to process page 2), and the fax machine says that it has received 2 pages, but the second page is blank. Wow. Now that's a first. We'll have to figure this one out on our own. Did
sending a multipage document ever work? If you send a multipage document with no cover page, what happens? Has Outlook ever been configured to send documents with a cover page on your installation? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Martin Abernethy" <martinabernethy@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:OfGAV0sdDHA.1772@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... > I have tried the following from MS Word 2000, Notepad, and Internet > Explorer. > > Select Print from the file menu, and then the Fax printer. More information. I have tried printing to fax from some non-MS
applications as well, with the same result. It doesn't seem to be anything to do with the cover page - any faxed multi-page document results in only the first page being received correctly. The computer is new, with a clean install of XP Pro and service pack 1. I added the fax software after SP1, but have re-applied SP1 with no difference in the result. It's the first time I've tried faxing from this machine. Outlook 2000 is installed, but I haven't tried faxing from it, and haven't deliberately set any fax options. The receiving fax machine has successfully received many multiple page faxes both before and after the strange faxes from the new computer. It must be either the output that the Fax printer is generating, or the modem and/or its drivers. I will remove the windows fax software, and download a trial version of some other fax software later today, and try that. OK.
I downloaded and installed a trial version of Mighty FAX (http://www.rkssoftware.com/mightyfax/overview.html) - picked at random from the many programs googled. Printing to the 'Mighty FAX' printer sends multi-page faxes which are received perfectly. I concluded that the Windows faxing software was broken, and removed and reinstalled it from the add/remove windows components section of control panel. The installation went differently than before. This time it asked me to insert the Office 2000 CD as well as the Windows XP CD. The Windows fax software now sends all odd numbered pages perfectly, all even numbered pages are received as completely blank - no date/time, TSID etc as well as no data. There is obviously something strange about my installation. I would be curious to know just what is going on, but for the small number of faxes this machine will be used to send, and knowing that software is available which does work, it is not worth spending any more time on investigation.
