Sys error 1068 regarding printer installation spooler problem

I'm trying to reinstall my Lexmark x-75 printer using my
installation cd, but it keeps asking me to install the
spooler, and when I click yes, nothing happens. I spoke
with Lexmark tech support who asked me to go to the start
menu, key in cmd which I did, and then key "net stop
spooler. I received the reply "the print spooler service
is not started more help is available by typing net
helpmsg 3251. I was then told to key "net start spooler
which generated sys error 1068 has occured. "the
dependency service or group failed to start. Lexmark tech
support told me that this error involved windows Xp and
that I should contact you. There was also a reply which
stated c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. I've rebooted several times and
still no luck.
