Default Network printers...

Ever since I upgraded an IBM Thinkpad to Windows XP I am
having a problem with network printers. Every few minutes
in checking the printer folders, all my network printers
say "opening" Most times the printer will reconnect and go
back to "ready" but sometimes if won't connect back to the
printer. Even in the "unable to connect" state, I can
still print to the printer. I diabled power management on
my NIC and swapped out patch cables and even switch ports
on the switch thinking it was an intermittant network
connection. Nothing helped.
