XP install - hangs with 34 min. left

While performing a clean install of XP everything goes
along just fine until it gets to where it loads drivers.
After loading the mouse it tries to load the monitor
drivers, the monitor shuts off and they system hangs...
this is a new hard drive and I turned the legacy USB off
in the BIOS.
