USB printer problem - copy created
I have a strange thing happening with my printer, a Brother Multifunction device (MFC-9880). The printer is connected to my computer via USB. Sometimes when I start my computer, the hardware wizards re-detects the printer (even though it is already installed and working properly and has not been disconnected) and then installs another copy of the printer. In other words, under Printers & Faxes I end up with two entries: - Brother MFC-9880 USB; and - Brother MFC-9880 USB (Copy 1) The former is the original and default printer and the latter is the reinstallation. During the reinstallation, the default printer is set to offline but because the second installation is not set to default, I always end up with a printer error when I try to print. Only after I manually delete the copy and set the original printer to "online" can I print again. The interesting thing is that this does not always happen on start-up - only sometimes. How can I stop this from happening? Jorg. |

I know this is an extremely old thread, but I am having the same problem, and I have no idea where to find the thread in the printers newsgroup that Cari mentioned. Anyone know how to fix this problem still?
