I have just completely formatted and resintalled windows XP with SP2 and
all is fine except I have the firewall disabled (got a hardware one) yet after a reboot it tells me its disabled and keeps warning me. I have disabled all notifications in the security center and even edited the registry to set both FirewallDisableNotify and FirewallOverride to 1 yet after a reboot the values are changed back shortly after logon. Is there somthing that could be setting these to the default value? Many Thanks |

If not using ICS , AND you do not wish to use the xp firewall.... Run services.msc and disable Windows Firewall / ICS service. Use Security Center to re-review notification settings, and restart XP. I'm not using XP firewall (but ZoneAlarm) and did my selections through both Control Panel & Security Center. Told it to not monitor firewall. My settings for Security Center in registry: at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center FirewallDisableNotify = 1 and FirewallOverride = 1. I'm not getting any nag popups. -- Maurice N MVP Windows - Shell / User ----- |

I am having the same problem, and the Norton issue could be it. When I updated Norton Anti-Virus, it talked about WMI or something like that. Does anybody know where I can go to change that setting now? I am curious if that is my problem. Jeff |

Wow, another reason to leave Symantec. What do people recommend for Anti-Virus solutions? Jeff |
