Default Sending .jpgs in Windows XP vs Windows 98

I recently purchased a new computer, it came with Windows XP.

I am no longer able to send .jpgs via Messgener to a friend
who has Windows 98. That person gets an onscreen message
when I attempt to do so, stating that they do not have
Windows XP and therefore can not receive files. (.jpgs)

Does anyone know why this should be and what I can do to
resume the ability to send and receive .jpgs with them in
Messenger?

Thank you,

Greetings Don,

Sending files through Messenger is compatible through all the versions, regardless of Windows
version.

However, if you're having problems sending files on Windows XP, your Internet Connection
Firewall may be blocking it. To fix this, click Start, then click the Control Panel. If
you're in category view click Network and Internet connections then click Network
Connections. Right click the network/internet connection, then click Properties. Click the
Advanced Tab, and verify that the Internet Connection Firewall is unchecked.
