Default unable to map pertition 2 on Master disk

Hi!
I reinstalled my PC which was previosly running win2k pro
with XP PRO. during the process i deleted the first
partition and then created it again. at the end of
installation, the system show the partition with it's
name as healthy (Unknown Partition) and i can not assign
a letter or access the data. the only option I have valid
in the disk manager is "delet partition". any suggestions
how can I save the data on that partition? Thanks

If you've already deleted the partition once, the data is gone. You might be
able to get it back using some sort of recovery program, or by sending the
drive to a data recovery service.

To use the partition, you need to format it after you create the partition.
As to why your only option is to delete it, it might have something to do
with the way you created it in the first place. From within Windows, you
should be able to delete it, re-create it, format it, then use it. But of
course it will be completely empty.
