I had an OEM version of XP Home installed on my HP Pavilion 524c desktop. I
upgraded the machine to XP Pro. After doing the upgrade, I went about running Windows update to get all of the updates, the first of which was SP1. After the reboot after installing SP1, suddenly none of my USB devices work. During the boot, the light on my Intellimouse Optical goes on until sometime during the initialization sequence with the Windows XP logo up. At this point, it shuts off and I can't figure out anything to revive it including unplugging/replugging or installing the Intellimouse software. My other USB devices, such as an Intel camera and an HP all-in-one aren't recognized either. None of them appear in the device manager, scanning for hardware changes produces nothing. Interestingly enough, I tried disabling the USB Root Hub and USB Host Controller. After a reboot, the light on my mouse stayed on, but for obvious reasons it didn't work. When I went to re-enable the first Root Hub, my mouse light immediately went out. A search on the Web revealed some presentation entitled "Windows XP Service Pack 1 Known Issues" with a subhead of "BTS Training Content" that says: USB mousse and other devices don’t respond after upgrade to SP1 Bug 646432 Unfortunately, the reference to some bug number is not particularly helpful and I could find no additional mention of the bug anywhere. Having done some searching, I've noticed that I did some things I probably shouldn't have in the upgrade, such as leaving my USB devices plugged in and leaving my antivirus software running. Any help would be appreciated. Basim |

Sounds like SP1 got your drivers for USB 2.0. You simply need to update your computer with the proper USB 2.0 drivers. Thanks very much! I updated the driver on the Enhanced PCI to USB Host
Controller. The first time around, I blue screened with BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER. After the Online Crash Analysis, it updated some other CD recording driver. Then I tried updating the USB driver again and it worked. Everything is back to normal. Many thanks for the advice.
