I am about to pull out an AMD-K7 550 from my motherboard
to replace it with an AMD-K7 800. I have WinXP Home installed and it has all the critical updates. Anything I need to do when I restart my computer after the CPU upgrade? Will WinXP even notice the CPU switcheroo at all? Thanks! |

Same motherboard, hard drive, video card, sound card, network card, etc? Windows XP should not even notice. You might.. XP shouldn't. But - as always - Do some cleanup first and backup your files. A nice Defragment of your hard drive(s).. a Disk Cleanup to get rid of unnecessary files, a scandisk to check for drive problems, general stuff.. Be sure to backup your important files.. JUST in CASE. (You never know.. You could cause a surge that shorts out your motherboard and hard drive or something. heh) -- Shenan Stanley "Just trying to help" ------------------------- How to use XPs Help and Support http://tinyurl.com/fltf How to Use the Microsoft Product Support Newsgroups http://tinyurl.com/fkja How to use Google http://www.google.com/help/basics.html http://tinyurl.com/fkmc ------------------------- |

There shouldn't be. Last year, I upgraded my motherboard
and chip to a Soyo/AMD combination. There was nothing to do. XP didn't even call for a reactivation. -- Mark >-----Original Message----- >I am about to pull out an AMD-K7 550 from my motherboard >to replace it with an AMD-K7 800.
