Default Upgrade to Windows XP

I have an inherited PC with Win 98. I want to upgrade to
XP Professional, but don't have the Windows 98 system
disks. Can I buy the XP upgrade package, or will I have
a problem and need to buy the whole Win XP full install?

Default Re: Upgrade to Windows XP

Charl;
You will eventually need the previous Windows CD.
For now you MAY be able to get by with Windows XP Upgrade as long as
you perform an upgrade.
If you attempt a Clean Installation, you will need the previous CD.
Without the CD it is questionable at best as to whether you have a
valid license to use Windows 98.
Your best chance is to buy the full version.

Before you start, follow this link, especially #3 Upgrade Advisor, to
make sure the computer is ready for Windows XP:
