Ivan;
System Volume Information is the System Restore data. It can not be saved for reuse at a later time. Once the data leaves the file it is virtually worthless. See this for more information: http://microsoft.com/technet/treevi...ps/FAQSRWXP.asp -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] An easier way to read newsgroup messages: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...roups/setup.asp Please respond to newsgroup only for everyone's benefit. Ivan, you can do something similar to this and achieve your aim with tools like Partition Magic, Drive Image, Drive Copy, Norton Ghost, etc. You cannot copy the operating system as long as it is running. Actually Ivan's post was in regard to the system volume, also known as
the system partition, not the System Volume Information folder. Norton Ghost or another disk imaging tool would be well suited for making a backup of the system partition that could be reapplied after formating the drive.
