Is this over a slow dialup link? Its possible its just taking a long time to render the remote
desktop on your local display. You might try to speed this up by customizing the connection. Open
the RD connection applet and go to "Options -> Experience" and select a lower bandwidth option.
Another option, one that I use, is to always disable the display of the remote desktop wallpaper.
That is set in a Group Policy on the RD host box. Run "gpedit.msc" and navigate to "Local Computer
Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Terminal
Services -> Enforce Removal of Remote Desktop Wallpaper".
