The QFE references files I should be getting from a manual extract.
a.. You should have the following files in C:\XPEUpdate: a.. OLE32.DLL, file size 1,120,256 bytes, version 5.1.2600.1243. b.. RPCRT4.DLL, file size 504,320 bytes, version 5.1.2600.1230. c.. RPCSS.DLL, file size 202,752 bytes, version 5.1.2600.1243. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en I have 3 folders \Doc \Rep \sld. There is no SP1 or SP2 folder. And the files the document references are not there! |

Then you're extracting the wrong EXE, which is fine because the bits you
need are in the rep folder. You have several choices here. You can either take the files from the "rep" folder and all other steps after that would be the same. OR You can download the hotfix installer for FULL XP-Pro, expand it with winzip and take the SP1 files from the SP2 folder and the RTM files from the SP1 folder. The EXE the embedded team posted for your dependency database is for SP1 only and it sounds like you've already got the files, you just need to take a peek inside the "rep" folder you extracted from the Embedded QFE. I just checked it again and downloaded it again.
SO I got the 3 files but they are all named with the QFE # In the begining. 823980_ole32.dll 823980_rpcrt4.dll 823980_rpcss.dll SO do I just rendame them? A<. Yes, if you prefer getting the bits from the embedded qfe, renaming them
will eventually be required. Either now or on the fly by your update mechanism when the device is being updated. -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ========================================================== "Andy Izsak" <izsakmixer@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:O$htdebbDHA.1744@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > I just checked it again and downloaded it again. > SO I got the 3 files but they are all named with the QFE # In the begining. > > 823980_ole32.dll > 823980_rpcrt4.dll > 823980_rpcss.dll > > SO do I just rendame them? > > > A<. > > "Andy Allred [MS]" <andyall@online.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:%238ANnUbbDHA.2284@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > > Then you're extracting the wrong EXE, which is fine because the bits you > > need are in the rep folder. > > > > You have several choices here. > > > > You can either take the files from the "rep" folder and all other steps > > after that would be the same. > > OR > > You can download the hotfix installer for FULL XP-Pro, expand it with > winzip > > and take the SP1 files from the SP2 folder and the RTM files from the SP1 > > folder. > > > > The EXE the embedded team posted for your dependency database is for SP1 > > only and it sounds like you've already got the files, you just need to > take > > a peek inside the "rep" folder you extracted from the Embedded QFE. > > > > Andy > > > > -- > > > > This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no > rights. > > ========================================================== > > > > > > "Andy Izsak" <izsakmixer@yahoo.com> wrote in message > > news:eo$YrEbbDHA.2476@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... > > > The QFE references files I should be getting from a manual extract. > > > a.. The instructions are correct. When clicking on the link that leads you to
the QFE package for full XP-Pro the steps immediately after that are correct. You however went to the link for the componentized QFE earlier in the doc and then jumped down the doc to the steps related to the QFE for XP-Pro. But you're good to go now, add the files and reg keys to your device are you're OK. -- Andy This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ===================================================== "Andy Izsak" <izsakmixer@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:ep6H2pbbDHA.2476@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... > SO essentially the instructions in the doc are wrong? > > I can just rename the files copy them \windows\system32 and apply the > registry setings. > RIght? > > A<. > > "Andy Allred [MS]" <andyall@online.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:eKu9XjbbDHA.1272@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > > Yes, if you prefer getting the bits from the embedded qfe, renaming them > > will eventually be required.
