Default embedded brackets

I have created a document in MSWord XP and notice that
there are grey or shadowy brackets at various places
throughout the document. What are they? What do they do?
They seem to be embedded and I have been unable to delete
them. It doesn't matter if I create a brand new document
or edit a document copied from a floppy. Help Help Help

Hi RitaMae,
You found a newsgroup that is dedicate to the Windows Embedded Operating
System. You will find Office experts in this MS newsgroup, though:

microsoft.public.office.misc

Good Luck.
