I just installed Windows XP on a PC that previously had Windows 2000, and now
when I start up the PC I have to choose in startup whether to start Microsoft Windows XP Rofessional Microsoft Windows Shouldn't the install of XP have overwritten 2000? HOw do I get rid of one? |

It all depends on how you did the install of Windows XP. Did you do an
upgrade or did you just put the Windows XP CD in and boot from the CD and run installation from there? You can easily remove that option from start up by going to: Start Control Panel System Go to the Advanced tab Click the Settings button under "Startup and Recovery" Click the Edit button under System startup Remove only the line that says "Microsoft Windows" do not remove the line that say "Microsoft Windows XP Professional". If you do your computer may no longer boot. Editing this file is dangerous and can cause problems so please if you are going to edit it do it cautiously. Another option would be to shorten the length of time to display the list of operating systems under "System startup" and make sure the OS you want to startup is selected for the Default operating system. -- Eric Renken Microsoft Associate Expert.
