SERVICE PACK 2

I am trying to install Service Pack 2 from a CD. I get as far as a screen
which says "Inspecting your current configuration"
Nothing happens for a long time....maybe an hour......then I get a message....
"Setup could not verify the integrity of the file update.inf. Make sure the
cryptographic service is running on this computer"
I have no idea what this means and what I should do after that.
Can anyone help????thanks from "downunder"
