Default Upgrade Home to Pro

I bought a new computer with XP Home on it and thought I could use an old
upgrade to XP Pro. When I try to do this, I get the message "Setup cannot
continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the
version on the CD." It gives an option for a clean load, but I don't want to
lose other program on the new computer. Can I upgrade to Pro?

Unless you have need to connect to a domain, or are likely to use the file
security features that Pro affords, you may as well stay with 'Home'..

In its latest guise, SP2 is not uninstallable, so you will have to use the
following procedure to install your XP Pro..

Alternatively, if you are determined to use Pro, buy a new XP Pro package..

Just to add to Mike's post, when he refers to a new XP Pro package, be sure
it specifically states XP Pro SP2 or you'll run into the same situation.
Your computer came with XP Home SP2 and because SP2 is not integrated into
your version of XP Pro, you are receiving the message you described.
