Default program running without having nothing open

I do not know if this is on the correct newsgroup but I will try anyway.
Everytime I sign in my computer it tells me that I have for example 2
program running when in fact I do not have any. Is there a way to see what
is running and is there a way stop those program running behind?

Thank you very much.
Sylvain

What tells you?

There is always something running, you might be surprised? If you hit
ctrl-alt-delete, you can see the programs running on the applications tab.
If these programs are starting when you first log in, you can check to see
if there is a shortcut in the startup folder and you can also, type msconfig
in the run box on the Start menu and check the startup tab for programs
designated to run on startup.
