Default wmplayer won't let me in!

Hey now! my computer came with wmplayer, and at first it would let me play
movies
and CDs, but all of a sudden it says that i don't have the proper codec.
How is that
possible? I have'nt removed anything, not that i know of.
I also have a couple of friends that have the same problem. It also sends
me to a web page telling me that i need to purchase certain devices that
should have been
on the computer when i purchased it right? Can u help me please!!!

Open WMP,tools,options,select,download codecs automatically.You can/could
also go to downloads at microsoft, media downloads, select, codecs for 7.1 or
