Function search does not start

XP home user: I used search for mails, pictures and music and it always
worked properly.
But from 1 week ago it refuse to start, the window open , I write my request
and choose the subject but nothing happens. ctrl + alt + suppr, indicates
that "Search" is not running.
I tried to set my computer to a date when "Search" worked.
No success
Thank you for any clue?
