directx

I have files missing from directx several dll.files. It stated that I should
rreinstall dirextx. So I downloaded directx9.0 and I ran it. Didn't fix the
files. I use windowsxp. Have all my updates on my computer. I don't know if I
deleted them. My computer skills if I rated them from 1 to 10 would be on the
low side about a 5. Could someome please help. Thanks.
