Default Microsoft Internet Problem

I have a Compaq Computer 6330us, oem windows xp, 2.0 Processor, 60 gig hard drive, 512 ram. I have high speed cable & dial-up
connection. My problem is when I surf the web sites on internet explorer I get a dialog box that says: " Microsoft Internet Explorer has
encountered a problem & needs to close, tell Microsoft about this problem." When I click to send & close I lose the web site connection.
I don't get this problem when I surf the web on my 98 computer using dial-up connection. I took the computer to a computer tech last
week and he said that problem was caused by a virus. They had the computer for 5 days and they said they run a virus scan but
could not find a virus problem, this cost me 70 dollars with on solution. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem,. Thank you

Hello
It is possible some system files have been corrupted.
How to run SFC (system file checker)
Start>Run>(type) cmd (enter)>(type) sfc /scannow (notice the space between
sfc & / )

Have you done any house cleaning lately, delete the cookies & temp. internet
files.
Start>Control Panel>Internet Properties

On the General Tab
Delete Cookies, Delete Files (tick the Delete all Offline box), OK

On the Advanced Tab
Click set the defaults, then you can also check & uncheck the items you
wish.

Then check for any and Adware
Download, Update & Run Ad-Aware 6
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
or
Bazooka
http://www.kephyr.com/index.phtml

Download & Run one of these free virus scanners to double check your current
one.

Hello Bill
It can be caused by a software conflict of some kind.
Have you downloaded or updated any new software just before the problem
started?
Have you tried reinstalling your virus software?
If you know when the problem started, try doing a system restore to an
earlier date.
Start>Programs>Accessories>System tools>System Restore

Default Re: Microsoft Internet Problem

First, be sure your antivirus software has the latest definitions and run a
virus scan.

Second, download, install and run Ad Aware:
www.lavasoftusa.com

Also, open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, select Internet Options, go to
the Advanced tab, if there is a check next to "Enable third party browser
extensions," remove it and click apply and ok.

If your system is clear of viruses, open Control Panel, open System, go to
the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery, remove the
check from "Automatically Restart" under System Failure. This will cause
the system to blue screen instead of restarting on errors and the
information on the blue screen may give a clue as to the source of the
issue.

Open Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for
errors corresponding to the crash, double click the error, the information
contained within may give a clue as to the
source of the problem. If you don't understand the information inside, the
third button down in that dialog box will copy the information,
you can then paste it into a message and post it here and maybe we can
figure out what is going on.

Assuming you have an XP CD and not a recovery CD, place the XP CD in the
drive, when the setup screen appears, select "Check System Compatibility,"
the report it generates may point to problem hardware or software on your
system. If you do not have an XP CD, you can download this application
known as the Upgrade Advisor from the following site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...ing/advisor.asp
Note: If you have access to a broadband connection it might be best to
download using that as this is a rather large download.

Check for the latest drivers for your hardware, especially your graphics
card and soundcard and all peripherals connected to your system. Do not use
Windows Update for this, go to the device manufacturer's web sites and if
you install updated drivers, ignore the message about drivers being unsigned
by Microsoft. *Before installing any drivers, be sure you are well backed
up and it's probably a good idea to manually create a restore point in
System Restore in case you have problems as a result of the driver update
and note, System Restore is not a substitute for a backup. Start\All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

Ultimately, in order to source this issue, you may need to remove
applications one by one and/or even hardware devices, testing after each one
to see if the problem goes away.
