Default * After SP2, XP Pro dosen't boot *

Dear Experts,
I have P4 3.06GHz , 512 MB RAM and WinXP Pro in my Compaq Presario.

After installing SP2 the system doesn't boot, it just freezes at the "XP
logo with Please wait" screen.
Repairing the XP doesn't help. I formatted the drive and installed XP afresh
then tried SP2, still it freezes.

Any idea on this ?

I have recently upgraded the BIOS as suggested by HP. Could this be a
problem ?.

Regards
Kumaran
