Default RPC

After upgrading to the newest version of eTrust's EZantivirus, my Windows XP
Home computer, upon logging in, says that the Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
has been shut down. It then gives me 60 seconds before it restarts the
system.

I have tried to boot into Safe Mode, but it does the same thing. Even when
I install the new version of the AV program onto a clean installation of
Windows XP, it gives me the same results.

Any ideas on why the new version (6.2.x) is giving me trouble? (Running
6.1.7 currently, don't want to lose my data)

It sounds like you caught Sesser or Blaster.
Do you have a firewall?

Greetings --

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first
enabled a firewall, without having first installed an antivirus
application with current virus definition files, and before installing
the KB828471 Hotfix, you're very likely to get infected from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.
