hello
I just found some strange files in my system, which I think are spyware ( one of them is in cookies folder), when I try to delete them, I got the message:" cannot delete (file name), it is being used by another person or program", when i open properties of those files, the read- only boxe is already unchecked. could you tell me how to delete those files? |

Try something like Ad-Aware which is free for personal use: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. http://www.smirnov.demon.co.uk/ http://www.doom3portal.com/ A Doom 3 fansite. http://www.dasmirnov.net/articles/sp2preview.htm Service Pack 2 is coming! *Replace nospam with smirnov to reply by e-mail* |

Hello Mr. Smith
I already have ad-ware version 6.0, but it cannot delete those files. Could you tell me if there are other software that can delete those files |

That's why you can't delete that one. It should be located in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\ As for index.dat if it's in your cookies folder you could try just "delete cookies" from Internet Options. Although I've got quite a few index.dat on my machine, they don't seem to be up to anything suspicious. -- Paul Smith, Yeovil, UK. http://www.smirnov.demon.co.uk/ http://www.doom3portal.com/ A Doom 3 fansite. http://www.dasmirnov.net/articles/sp2preview.htm Service Pack 2 is coming! *Replace nospam with smirnov to reply by e-mail* |

For the truly paranoid (include me :-), go to this link from techtv the
screen savers and it will explain what .dat files are and how to delete them if you want to. (I am not that paranoid). http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/...3668551,00.html Bob "tuan" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:3d1301c42a32$a3fe4d20$a001280a@phx.gbl... > > I already updated ad-aware, but i still cannot those > files. they are INDEX and ntuser, both files are DAT files |

If you think it's spyware, then it will be damn hard to
delete and you certainly won't be able to do it conventionally. I got a bad case of ad/spy ware a while back and the only way to get rid of it was to re-format my system. There are some anti-spy ware utilites (www.download.com) that will get rid of it for you, but they cost money and it's tough to tell which programs are good and which are crap. I think you have to reformat your hard drive if you want to get rid of the spyware. >-----Original Message----- >hello > >I just found some strange files in my system, which I >think are spyware ( one of them is in cookies folder), >when I try to delete them, I got the message:" cannot >delete (file name), it is being used by another person or >program", when i open properties of those files, the read- >only boxe is already unchecked. could you tell me how to >delete those files? >. > |
