Closecombat and Windows XP... HELP! =)

Hello to everyone reading this, and thank you everyone
who tried or did answer this posting.

Here is my problem.

I have the game "Closecombat" made my microsoft
during windows 95 I think. Anyhow, I am trying to play
the game again because I liked it so much and I can't
seem to get it to run on my Windows XP home edition.

Every time I click the install from the autorun (or
simply clicking on the setup.exe file on the cd) I get
the message that reads "This Setup program is not
intended to be used with your version of windows".

I have tried coping the whole CD on my desktop into
a folder and then select the Setup.exe file properties to
allow it to run as a windows 95 but it still gives me
this same error. In hopes of installing it from my
desktop I was hoping to get it install from there then
use the cd to start it from.

Is there ANYTHING I can do for this... It would suck
badly if I had a microsoft game that WOULD not be
compatable for windows XP in anyway... =/

Use Compatibility Mode from the very beginning, Kenny. Insert the CD, go to
Start/Run/Browse and find the setup.exe or install.exe file on the root of
the CD and right-click it. Select Properties and then the Compatibility
tab. Tell it the original Win95 OS, and check the display and color
settings also, then OK your way back to the Run line and fire away. Once it
installs, right-click the icon you'll use to launch the game and repeat the
Properties/Compatibility settings to make sure they're proper. You can find
more details on how to run these "legacy" games in a very good TechNet

Make sure you also check around for any updates available after the install,
and before you run it the first time.

Thanks for all your help but I have not been able to find
anything or get anything working with this game. It is
so frustrating that Microsoft does not have something to
fix this problem. I have tried litterally EVERY
combonation of the "program compatibility wizard" and
still NOTHING.. =(

I have also searched the internet for a few hours with no
luck on the problem. I have found it frustrating that
Microsoft has NOTHING on all the their website to address
this issue.

Kenny, it does work. I'll repost another variation of the steps by
Microsoft MVP Jimmy S. below, but before you attempt it, make sure ALL
programs are absolutely shutdown - not running in the background. There are
some Symantec (Norton) programs and ZoneAlarm which don't "exit" when you
use that icon in the Systray - all they do is exit the icon, and continue
running and interfering behind the scenes.

Here's what Jimmy has posted before:

To install a program using Windows XP's Compatibility Mode, hold
down SHIFT as you insert the game CD, use My Computer to browse
to the setup program, and then skip down to step 1 in the list below:

To run an installed program using Windows XP's Compatibility Mode,
first right click the program and "Send To..." / Desktop (create shortcut).

1.. Right click on the shortcut to the program.
2.. Click on Properties.
3.. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4.. Click on Run this program in compatibility mode and select one of
these:
a.. Windows 95
b.. Windows 98
c.. Windows NT 4
d.. Windows 2000
5.. Under Display settings, check mark the mode that you think that is
best:
a.. Run in 256 colors.
b.. Run in 640 X 480 screen resolution.
c.. Disable visual themes.

Click on Apply.Click on Ok.Double click on the program.

Of course, let's not forget to check for any patches or updates for that
game.
