Default Game crashes

Have XP Home Edition---Play games offline---every, not
some not occassionaly but every time I start a game it
inevitably crashes, not to the desktop but through the
desktop to restart the computer---I have tried games from
EA, Activision, Infogrames, 400 Software Studios, 3DO,
Microsoft, Sierra and others they all crash---all XP
updates have been installed, all drivers have been
updated, no viruses present disk has been defragged---
system works well with other programs---Any ideas---any
at all ????

Default Re: Game crashes

Hi Piper66,

Your system is most likely restarting as a result of a STOP error.

To stop this behavior go to Control Panel / System / Advanced /
Click the Startup and Recovery Settings button / Uncheck the box
labelled "Automatically restart" under the System Failure section.

To analyse the error, try the steps in: http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm

If the error indicates a file name that begins with ati, or nv (nVidia)
the most likely solution would be to install the latest drivers using
the instructions at: http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Video.html#drivers

Default RE: Game crashes

I have virtually the same problem .. all games will not run, with the exception of EA's Tiger Woods Golf game, for some reason. When it locks up, I have to use the cntrl/alt/delete to get out, and the cpu usage in 'applications' shows 100%. A month ago everything worked fine but 'restore' won't fix it. I've tried all of the fixes you have, and more

I have the NIVIDIA GeForce ti 4200 . . . what card are you using?

Default Game crashes

A typical conflict between drivers versions.

ATI have a uninstaller utility, maybe nvidia too.

Maybe is the "infinite loop" problem = drivers version
conflict.

Unistall the card from the agp slot, and install it again.
Maybe is a bad installation.
