System restarting

This is for my boy who plays cs a lot and is quite frustrated with the system restarting. It is not related to cs as it will restart on Runescape as well and sometimes when just opening say an mpeg. This is all I can get from the log viewer

The COM+ Event System failed to fire the StartShell method on subscription {A5978620-5B3F-F1D1-8ED2-00FA0035B753}-{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}-{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}. The subscriber returned HRESULT 80004001

Not sure if this is the right forum? I have installed the latest nvidia driver for the geforce4 MX440. CPU is a P4 3.06 and 512MB RAM. Mainboard is L41PEA2. It has been an ongoing problem for a long time now any help would be much appreciated

Hi Khb,

Perhaps if you stop the system from restarting it will give better information
on the STOP screen than what's being recorded in the Event Viewer.

To stop auto restart go to Control Panel / System / Advanced /
Click the Startup and Recovery Settings button / Uncheck the box
labelled "Automatically restart" under the System Failure section.

To analyse the error, try the steps in: http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm

If the error indicates a file name that begins with ati, or nv (nVidia)
the most likely solution would be to install the latest drivers using
the instructions at: http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Video.html#drivers
