Phantasmagoria and NTDVM.exe

I am trying to play Phantasmagoria on my windows xp
computer and it played fine until I got to the 5th
chapter of the game. It continually gives me an error
message that NTVDM has encountered a problem and shuts
the game off. I looked this up on th KB and it tells you
what ntvdm does but not how to fix or prevent it.
I have tried the compatibility wizard in every
configuration possible and that has not worked either.
And darling Sierra, which should provide a workable patch
no longer supports the game!
Any help would be appreciated!

If it errors out at the same place every time, might have a bad disk.

my computer is giving me the same message at the same spot in chapter five! every time the video for the dragon thing in the conservatory starts playing, it locks up about five seconds into it. help??
