Default Sidewinder gamepad USB

I've been tearing my hair out for 2 weeks trying to get
this gamepad to work. I've downloaded drivers etc. I am
operating on Windows XP and everytime I hit add, it gives
me a message "Your gameport or gameport drivers are not
properly configured".The gamepad did not come with any
software. Got any suggestions? I don't know where to start.

Start/Control Panel/Game controllers/add/Microsoft sidewinder auto detect...
it should then load the XP drivers and work.

This method of adding a device is only for gameport devices. USB devices as
the title suggests are Plug and Play and should load automatically when
connected to the USB port. I responded to your other post suggesting if your
gamepad didn't get automatically detected by the system then you probably
have a VIA controller for your USB and that you should get the update for
your USB controller. This site should have what you need.

Let me know if you need more help or something explained in more detail.

It can also be that some people erroneously follow the suggestions of one PC
magazine and a couple web sites to "tweak" their systems for better
performance by turning off UPnP and Cryptographic Services in Control
Panel/Administrative Tools/Services.
